Page helps get you through “yourDay”
Some readers opening The Beaumont Enterprise Tuesday will be rolling their eyes and sighing as they think, “What the heck have they done this time?”
Yes, your newspaper is making more changes. We think for the better. It’s one of a series of fairly significant changes made in recent months, with still more to come.
The newly designed page 2A, “yourDay,” pulls together some old standbys with some new twists to give readers a redesigned package of the most relevant information they need to get through their day.
It will include everything from current gasoline prices and road construction to an expanded weather package, some suggestions for things to do and a variety of columns we think will provide some information or entertainment. We’ll spotlight local workers on the job, tell you about off-beat businesses, and show you which stories on BeaumontEnterprise.com are clicking with our readers.
Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 20, you’ll also find a page called “yourWorld,” an expanded collection of state, national and international briefs on the back of section B, offering you a quick sampling of what’s going on in your world.
What you won’t find is something labeled as a Business section. Much of that, particularly involving the economy and locally industry, has evolved into front page news. We’ll have closer looks at local business on this page, in this space, and national business briefs on the “yourWorld” page.
Starting Jan. 25 you will find a locally written consumer-oriented page, “yourMoney,” exploring subjects such as personal finance, real estate trends and other subjects on the top of everyone’s list of concerns these days.
Our readers already have embraced a redesign of the features section, now called BE; changes to the Opinions page to spotlight greater reader interaction; replacement of the weekly Sunday TV section with daily TV listings; and a whole range of other smaller additions and subtractions.
Those changes have generated a substantial number of calls, e-mails and letters to the Reader Representative, to praise, to object, or sometimes just to question, our reasoning. It’s important for our readers to recognize both the positive aspects of the changes and the inevitability of them.
There will always be change in newspapers, but the Reader Representative, and this blog, exists to allow readers to question those changes and/or share their thoughts.
The Beaumont Enterprise dates back to November of 1880. A glance at that first issue shows long thin columns of type with small, narrow headlines and stories peppered with as much hearsay and opinion as actual fact. Photos were rare and stories weren’t as timely as today’s readers have come to expect.
The Enterprise has changed a lot since then and will continue to change. In a constantly changing world, that’s a good thing.

I have notice a lot of changes to the newspaper. Besides the change in format also the thinner paper. There doesn't seem to be much to the paper anymore.
Also our family likes to read the comics. We noticed that Dennis the Menace wasn't in the paper. Was that an error or a permanent change
